Excerpt: Seekers Guide to Learning Wicca: Training to First Degree in the Northern Hemisphere
by Amethyst Treleven
Welcome to The Seekers Guide to Learning Wicca for the northern hemisphere. I must admit up front that this book was originally written for students who live at the bottom of our wonderful planet but because I had so many students around the world who lived on the top half of our planet, I figured I shouldn’t be ‘hemisphere-ist’! So the northern hemisphere version you’re holding now was born especially for those of you who live ‘up there’.
Both Seeker’s Guides are written as the training text for students and practitioners of Inclusive Wicca. Oak and Mistletoe is the founding coven of the Community Church of Inclusive Wicca Incorporated which is a growing body of likeminded people from all around the world. The church itself was founded in Australia hence the first book being of a southern hemisphere flavour. However, we’re very much a global village now with the advent and mushrooming of the internet and mass communication, so Inclusive Wicca, and the church from which it comes, can’t be considered solely Australian anymore and is really now worldwide.
Using this book and training program enables you to reach your First Degree within the tradition and offers you the opportunity to move on to higher studies and to foster real relationships with likeminded people. Inclusive Wicca values the rights of people who want to learn Wicca and Witchcraft without adhering to the strict regime of an oath bound coven and while the program proudly provides you with the underpinning, and traditionally available teachings, it also encourages you to look beyond the dogma and develop a spiritual practice which meets you own personal needs and fosters your unique relationship with the Divine. In other words, the Inclusive tradition teaches you all you need to know but asks you to work it into your own practice so that you’re not just doing what someone else says you have to do. Inclusive Wicca is thus freedom of choice and something we’re very proud of.
If you have internet access, there’s also an online accompaniment at www.oakandmistletoe.com.au which supplements this work and provides opportunities to link with fellow students and teachers in a supportive, caring and ethical community. I’d encourage you to explore that option as well.
So in conclusion, I welcome you to our wonderful tradition and community and sincerely wish you well in your learning journey with us. Know always that I’m available via email (please go to the webpage at www.oakandmistletoe.com.au to access contact to me) to answer any questions and to offer personal support and help.
Smiles and blessings,
Amethyst
